Overview

The D2 visa is another type of visa aimed at obtaining residence in Portugal for those who are entrepeneurs, freelancers or independent service providers looking to establish or expand their business in Portugal. The applicant may choose either of the 2 types of activity:

  • Work as a freelancer or independent worker - The applicant must register the activity at the tax department in Portugal
  • Developing an entrepeneur activity by investing in a business in Portugal - The applicant must demonstrate the financial resources in Portugal and the intention to use the same to invest in operations in the Portuguese territory. Incorporating a company in Portugal is the most common way to apply for the D2 entrepeneur visa.
